Our Advocacy

The primary focus of our advocacy is to support a Legacy Amendment parks and trails funding formula that allocates at least 20% of the total funds to regional parks and trails in Greater Minnesota. We also advocate for increased state and federal funding for programs that provide communities with support for local and regional parks in Minnesota. With support and guidance from GMPT membership and the Board of Directors, GMPT develops a specific list of legislative priorities each year.

Bills We're Tracking

H.F. 3426 / S.F. 3857— The Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) bill containing the recommendations on how funds from the Environmental and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF) should be spent.
H.F. 3428 / S.F. 3999 — Requirement for commissioner approval of certain land acquisitions repealed.
H.F. 4265 / S.F. 4420 — Local recreation grants appropriation and bond issuance authorization.
H.F. 3564 / S.F. 3799 — The Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission (GMRPTC) legislation that would make a few technical tweaks to the Commission’s authorizing language, as well as extend the funding for five grants.
H.F. 3677 / S.F. 4318 — Motorized trails receiving grants-in-aid closed to nonmotorized use unless designated for that use.
